grant applications

The Irish Youth Foundation invites applications for grants each year from organisations working with young Irish people in England, Scotland and Wales and Northern Ireland with the exception of large and national charities. Application forms are available during December and January and grant awards are made the following April.

Unsolicited applications at other times during the year are not accepted.

Grants for organisations in England, Scotland and Wales fall into three categories:

  • Small grants up to £2,500
  • Medium grants for over £2,500 and under £12,000
  • Large grants for one year or more ranging from £12,000 - £25,000.


The Irish Youth Foundation (UK) and the Irish Youth Foundation (Ireland) have established a joint fund to provide support for community and voluntary groups in Northern Ireland. Organisations in Northern Ireland may apply for grants of up to £5,000.

We provide funding for a wide range of projects including:

  • Training/Counselling
  • Drug rehabilitation
  • Advice/Advocacy
  • Youth Work
  • Family Support
  • Homelessness
  • Educational, cultural & social activities
  • Cross-community initiatives
  • Travellers
  • Disability

The Irish Youth Foundation does not support:
  • Projects for the over 25’s
  • General appeals, large/national charities
  • Academic research
  • Alleviating deficits already incurred
  • Individuals
  • Capital bids
  • Overseas travel
Grant Application forms for funding in 2010 will be available for downloading from Friday 4 December 2009. 

The deadline for submissions will be Monday 18 January 2010.
